Plan - All in the Family
-
The previous owner’s DIY-gone-wrong does nothing to enhance the front of this home. Unsafe in summer – can’t imagine what it was like in winter.
-
Aging asphalt driveway was unsightly and inadequate for this family. It detracts from the curb appeal as much as the lack of a front entry.
-
Freshly-poured concrete steps with sturdy aluminum railings. New York Bluestone landings have a soldier course of Urbana pavers to match the driveway.
-
Architectural front entry gives the home character. A portion of the large expanse of sloped lawn was replaced with new trees, shrubs, and perennials. Precautions were taken with the White Pine near the front of the house to minimize the effects of construction. Root treatments and regular inspection by an arborist were conducted.
-
Paver driveway, Fond du Lac stone retaining walls, window boxes with fresh annual color, an added arbor over the garage, landscape lighting, and a custom mailbox combine to create a complete look with major curb appeal.
-
New stone retaining walls match the existing stone walls on the opposite side of the driveway. The walk from the driveway to the front door is easier (and safer) with two landings and aluminum railings.
-
No entertaining space in the back yard and one had to tread carefully on the deck over the garage.
-
Demo done and design installation in progress.
-
Garage roof was checked; deck understructure was replaced and topped with low-maintenance decking material.
-
Back yard now has a New York Bluestone fire pit patio, a dining patio, a seating area near the fountain/water feature, hot tub space with a custom arbor, an outdoor shower and a sound system.
-
Private seating around the water feature. Hot tub easily accessible from the house, especially appreciated during the winter months.
-
The stone column for the outdoor shower had to be hand-carried to the backyard. It took a team of 4 to maneuver it into place near the hot tub.
-
The original plan had the shower assembly attached to the pergola post. The homeowner changed her mind and decided on a larger assembly which meant a last minute change in the design.
-
The next door neighbor is a cousin. In the interest of family unity, the hedge/scrub-brush between the properties was removed, a Bluestone stepper pathway connects the two homes, moon- and pathlighting make it easy to go back and forth – even at night.
