A large solar array provides clean energy for many operations on campus. Reflecting blue skies and sitting among acres of naturalized prairie plantings, the panels blend nicely into the landscape.

BEFORE: A naturalized landscape can take years to develop but with proper grading, soil amendments, drainage and selective reduction, we transformed this empty space into a thick native prairie in record time.

Several large parking lots were added to accommodate growth at this corporate center, so permeable paving was installed to minimize the impact of runoff from essentials hardscapes.

One lot was built over a landfill, which was covered with a waterproof membrane, gravel and permeable pavers to divert water into a cistern for reuse in the sanitary system.

For the project’s three green roofs, we worked closely with structural engineers to install layers of lava stone, lightweight growing medium and hardy vegetation over special waterproof liners.

Heavily planted fields of wildflowers were tended by hand in their earliest stages to ensure that weeds would not get a stronghold. Now flowers dominate and maintenance is minimal.
