With over 130 trees and tens of thousands of container plants and annuals on this site, Buckhead Atlanta has achieved its goal of providing an established, vibrant feel to this high-profile area of Atlanta, Georgia.
-
40,000 sq/ft of concrete pavers were installed onsite, nearly half of which were used to construct roadways. With the very compressed four month schedule, masons sometimes worked 24 hour shifts as well as six and seven day works weeks to complete the hardscape on time.
-
Over 400 container pots add height and visual interest throughout this high-end district. Sasanqua Camelias and Dragonwing Begonias work in concert with boxwoods and Plectranthus Silvershield to provide texture, color and vibrancy at this storefront.
-
Plinths weighing approximately 4500 lbs. each were installed throughout the site with the use of a 10,000 lb. lull and were then adorned with decorative planters (right background).
-
Streetscapes are overflowing with a mix of perennials, shrubs, tropical and annuals—in total, over 75 varieties were used to create impactful and overflowing displays most of which are changed out three times a year.

High-end touches such as salt and pepper granite lined street corners—and even handicapped ramps—as well as 18” charcoal bands around all buildings that was imported from China are among the amenities that make this project stand out.

Over 3,300 linear feet of wrought iron planter rails were installed on top of all streetscape curb planters, adding a more finished, visual appeal to this project.
-
With the goal of creating a richly landscaped district that mirrors the surrounding neighborhoods, installing a mature tree canopy that would provide shade during spring and summer was a must. Due to the distance as well as the load restrictions in the center courtyard, a 550-ton crane had to be parked on the street to maneuver these specimen 40’ Highbeam Overcup Oaks into place.
-
The four oaks, with their 13 foot diameter rootballs were precisely guided into pre-finished 14 foot diameter holes using radio communication between ground personnel and the crane operator.
-
Over 63,000 bulbs were imported from The Netherlands and installed to provide spring impact for this vibrant site.
-
Ninety percent of the annuals were contract grown, requiring close coordination with nurseries to ensure plant material was lush and vibrant for both summer and fall rotations.
-
$1M worth of work was completed on this 8th floor amenity deck, requiring the use of a 260-ton crane to hoist trees, soil, concrete, pavers and plant material into place.
-
High client involvement was a hallmark of this project. The landscape architect laid out all 115,000 plants throughout the entire project by hand with the landscape contractor’s crews following behind to perform the installation.
-
With over 100 different subcontractors onsite performing work in a compressed four month time schedule, tasks had to be done out of sequence and in some cases instances of damage that had to be reworked
