After-Blasted Granite Boulders from central Minnesota slice into the hill. You get a sense of why there was a need for retaining walls.
-
In Progress - Cutting into the hill and managing the sandy soils with a variety of erosion controls – logs, silt fence, and blankets.
-
Same angle but completed. You can see the viewing terrace at the top of the retaining walls
-
Just getting started but you can see how the sandy the soils were; eventually, Viewing terrace/one of three fire pits is on this spot
-
Viewing Terrace: Trap Boulders serve as extra seating, Fond du Lac flagstone, gas fire pit, lighting and audio complete the picture
-
In Progress – Lines and shapes on the house have been copied in the landscape. The front pool deck is curved, the steps match the curve of the house; the viewing terrace and the upper fire pit patios are also curved.
-
After – Lower pool deck for sunning and lake-watching; steps to the main floor of the pool deck with flanking fire bowls at the top of the steps; the upper terrace and an outdoor kitchen with pergola, hot tub and another fire pit patio gives the family plenty of room to entertain
-
After – Night lighting not only highlights the architecture but provides an inviting warmth. Lighting in the lower pool catch basin and the fire bowls add a dramatic touch.
-
After – Upper terrace has an outdoor room with drop-down screens, a dining area, and outdoor kitchen (which is just outside the indoor kitchen).
-
After – The Kitchen and Pergola adds outdoor seating; a bar with a beautiful view
-
After – Turn around on one of the outdoor kitchen stools and this is the view.
-
The last of three fire pits, the upper gas fire pit is an easy reach from the house for a quick nighttime drink and to watch the moon rise.
-
After – Easily spotted from the lake, nearly 600 tons of boulders went into building the lower retaining walls. A mere set of steps wouldn’t have done the house or the property justice. This is their little bit of heaven….
