Functional and aesthetically pleasing natural stone retaining walls were created around the living spaces to mask the severe pitch to the side of the property where the storm sewer is placed and water is directed. They also provide garden spaces while separating patio areas.

The existing back landscape was void of any style, character or separation from neighbors and did not fulfill the homeowner’s entertaining needs.

The white pergola structure picks up details of the house and perfectly emulates the Nantucket style they desired. The structure produces an overhead plane, creating a comfortable outdoor room experience. The pergola rests on natural stone columns further heightening and separating the spaces.

As you step down to the dining area, natural stone raised planters surround and further separate the dining room to create a quiet oasis adjacent to the action. Colorful plants are repeated throughout all spaces to create unity.

This multi-functional outdoor living space has become an extension of the homeowner’s house. It is the perfect transition from inside to outside and can be used to cook, dine, entertain, watch television, relax, warm up by the fire, play with the kids, or simply enjoy the outdoors.

The bar layout was created to imitate stadium style seating; adding 4 extra seats along the granite countertop. Guests sitting at the bar can enjoy their favorite sporting event with their view unimpeded by friends and family sitting below in the living room.

The outdoor kitchen was intentionally set apart from the rest of the entertaining spaces for safety and convenience when cooking. Stone columns, pergola and seat wall emphasize the separate area. Designed similar to an indoor kitchen, it has a backsplash wired with electric, plenty of countertop space and storage below.

The beds surrounding the patio spaces are edged with natural stone to create the desired clean, organized look which becomes the perfect transition from patio hardscaping to backyard lawn. The raised planting beds contain vegetables that are at the perfect level for the homeowner’s children to garden.

Before a new entrance was created, the front of the house felt like a typical entry with very little character or warmth. The homeowner’s goal was to capture the Nantucket style of the house and reflect that in the overall landscape, ultimately creating a comfortable and relaxed environment.

The bluestone driveway banding merges with the front walk and draws the eye toward the entrance, creating a welcoming setting. The natural bluestone and Fond du Lac materials blend with the house creating a consistent look.

The natural stone veneer retaining walls match the existing material on the porch columns to create a unified look. Colorful plantings and seasonal planters were designed to highlight the architectural details of the porch while softening the hardscape.

The front walk blends seamlessly onto the existing front porch, creating a calm, cohesive, welcoming front entry experience.
