Meticulous restoration of 2.5-acre site surrounding Denver’s first landmark registered castle built in 1887. Severely neglected for many years, sensitivity to the original landscape design and extensive updating for modern day use were critical.

Richthofen Castle main entry. BEFORE RENOVATION
-
A “rug” of reclaimed bricks was added to the approach of the new driveway to set a more welcoming tone from the street entrance. All reclaimed bricks were hand-selected for the project.
-
At the front door, a rich Bluestone was set in a diagonal pattern within a border of reclaimed antique bricks to feel as though it was original to the home.
-
Mature plants and trees were selected and nurtured months before install to ensure they could provide walls, screens and canopies needed to create outdoor rooms.

A formal English knot garden adds charm.
-
Richthofen Castle side yard. BEFORE RENOVATION
-
The large side yard was designed specifically for entertaining large groups, with a circular path leading to other outdoor living areas.
-
To allow for enjoyable meandering, careful attention was paid to the scale of the paths, varying textures of landscape and hardscape.
-
Richthofen Castle raised patios. BEFORE RENOVATION
-
The raised, long side patios wrapping around a large peninsula section of the home were revived with new hardscape patterns and flowering plants to offer additional protected space to enjoy views to the rest of the property.
-
Richthofen Castle back patio. BEFORE RENOVATION
-
With 6 sets of stunning arched double doors, the back courtyard off the main interior gathering room of the home was the focus for indoor/outdoor entertaining.
-
In the center of the space, a new area was created for redbud trees to provide a canopy affect and additional shade to make the back courtyard more comfortable.
-
Undoing years of neglect and creating a sustainable future for the landscape surrounding the home presented challenges. The new owners wanted to prevent the grounds from falling into disrepair in future generations, tasking our team with the responsibility of preservation through proper planning.
