This very contemporary home in Denver needed a landscape design to unite the landscape with the architectural style of the home so the designer used strong forms in radial concentric patterns to modernize the setting.

The contrast of the lush grass to the various mass planting beds add almost a sculptural element throughout the landscape.

This photo is a great example of the different textures and colors that were incorporated into the landscape; by using a counterbalancing system, planting the harsh yucca net to soft feather reed grasses.

Annuals act as a container to the planting beds with less formal and softer grasses are added as backdrop. These bright grasses really help soften and tie this modern house into the adjacent lush green backdrop of Denver country club.

The roses were installed next to the concrete wall to take advantage of the microclimates by using solar radiating off the concrete walls giving the roses extra sun exposure. With Japanese Beetle getting so bad in Colorado, this has been a large pan point in the job, our client manager will have to come weekly starting in August to hand pick all the beetles off to ensure the roses survival.

Fall luminescent of grasses are used throughout the property, since the strict HOA guideline of nothing over 6’, so by using these grasses it gives the clients the same striking color a tree would.

This pictures shows the radial lines and how even the plants follow the same radial line. The designer wanted to mix both hard and soft lines to create balance in the property.

Formal pruning trees are up lit at night to add extra security but also act as a prominent sculptural element during the day. LED lights were added throughout the property to extend the landscape views from inside during the shorter days of winter.

The plant material was chosen to echo strong forms and lines in the property. Karl Forester grasses are cut back early Spring; our team keeps the blossoms through the winter to add visual interest while other plantings are dormant. This landscape can begin to feel hardscape heavy in the winter if it isn’t softened with the grasses.

This is a great shot of the house and our interpretation of a contemporary landscape setting by adding industrial walls juxtapose with the softness of the landscape. The garden with its many paths is meant to be explored.
