The entry of the home has more presence due to the major undertaking of lowering the drive and regrading the site. There is now a clear approach to the front door. The driveway is composed of permeable granite pavers and helps prevent water runoff and flooding.
-
Fire and water are the unifying features that start at the entry of the home and connect the landscape elements throughout the property. The front entry walk bridges a water rill that terminates at fire bowls on pillars of cascading water.
-
A water rill with bubbling fountains at the front entry sets the stage for the lake views one sees as they enter the home. A naturalized planting palette surrounds the property and helps nestle it into its lakeside location.
-
The detached garage was converted into a family room with a terrace that can be utilized in different types of weather.
-
Meandering stepping stone paths lead around the house on a picturesque garden offering framed views of the lake beyond.
-
During the home’s renovation, large windows were installed to help frame dramatic views of the landscape – blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living.
-
Irregular bluestone paving and a corten fire bowl delineate the sunken entertaining space.
-
The sunken entertaining space is flanked by a glass wall to deflect strong winds off the lake and raised infinity pool.
-
The bluff along the lake is retained by locally sourced granite boulders and native plantings. Slab steps traverse the slope and lead to a recreation swimming area and boating pier.
-
Lawn steps flare off the pool and lead to the lake.
-
The irregular bluestone terrace and infinity edge swimming pool delineate the rear upper terrace.
-
The rear upper terrace offers a place to retreat and cozy up by the fire. In the evening hours, the swimming pool transitions into a striking focal element with a dramatic fire feature along its infinity edge.
-
The end results of this four yearlong design and installation process are both stunning and contextually sensitive.
