All the precision, care and artful interpretation required as part of estate landscape management are exemplified here. Perfectly negotiated mowing lines are carefully centered on the entrance to the walled garden. Boxwood, Liriope, arborvitae and ground cover are all cared for to the benefit of each other, stewarding the formality of the space.
-
Soft touches of Hydrangea, Hosta and Liriope in the foreground are pruned and thinned as needed. Even the boxwood near them receive a less refined pruning than the boxwood in the folly garden across the private road. The lawn shows the benefit of a comprehensive fertilizer program and precision mowing
-
Part of what makes the lawn such a great space is that the family actually uses it. Here the repeat view of Photo 02 shows the kids enjoying the benefits of a large lawn space by tossing around a football while mom, dad and grandma hang out.
-
Precision maintenance pruning on the boxwood with a slightly less formal look for the arborvitae are part of the maintenance package. The benches are wiped down weekly and the decomposed granite is raked perfectly at the end of the each visit.
-
Scope is a telling factor in this view that carries to the home in the background. While all 1.42 acres are not in view, the magnitude of the task is more clearly evidenced as is the care associated with the effort. In addition to the couplet garden itself, perimeter beds of ground cover with sentinel hornbeams are managed for precise formality.
-
While the sky may be crisp, the battered boxwood hedge and the cut on the bed lines are even crisper. All boxwood pruning is performed with string lines as guides to ensure uniformity and that procedure is applied to the bed lines as well. Softer plants like the Liriope and Deutzia are hand-pruned and the Liriope is fluffed and cleaned with each weekly visit.
-
Expert edging of the bed lines is matched by the battered pruning of the boxwood and also the perfectly maintained ground cover. The Liriope is fluffed weekly and damaged or yellowed foliage is removed on each visit as well.
-
Nestled around the sugar maple, the boxwood in this bed receive a less formal pruning to align with the softness of the Hosta and Hydrangea. Like all the bed edges the line is perfectly crisp and maintained weekly.
-
Perhaps the best angle to show the disciplines of structured pruning and alignment of the boxwood with the more delicate approach taken with the Liriope and Hydrangea. Patios and walks are cleaned on each weekly visit.

Seasonal container plantings are an integral part of the yearly landscape management plan. A total of seventeen urns and containers are featured on site. Here, the large iron urns feature the summer rotation of flowers, which are always white.
-
The same urns after the summer rotation of annuals has been replaced with the fall plantings featuring ivy, cabbage and faux snowberry.
-
One day after a maintenance visit the cleanliness and attention to detail is evident as the grandkids stroll up the walk.
-
Lush green turf is a testament to the comprehensive fertilization and pest control management applied with diligence and expertise. The more casual planting in the back receives a less formal pruning except for background hedges that specifically hide the mechanicals.
-
Deadheading of perennials, a light touch with the Hydrangeas, and a random English approach to the roses are all part of the plant management strategies associated with the Gertrude Jekyll tribute garden
-
A slightly different view of the Jekyll garden. Even the bench and custom garden gate are wiped down weekly as part of the landscape management and development plan.
-
All furniture placements are mapped out at the beginning of the season so that can be positioned back into place after the patio is rinsed and blown dry at the end of each weekly visit.
-
Tucked into one of the beds, this urn is a high profile greeting as guests enter the back gardens. Like all other container plantings it is seasonally changed four times each year.
