The clients acquired the lot with the vision of replacing the original home with their dream residence. They sought a landscape design that would not only enhance the architectural elegance of the new home but also seamlessly blend the interior and exterior areas into a unified and harmonious composition.
-
The designer meticulously crafted the landscape to harmonize with the home’s architecture, achieving a seamless flow and elegant symmetry across the walkways and openings.
-
Our client, a retired U.S. Senator, prioritized privacy while desiring a design that showcased the grandeur of his home from the street. We carefully positioned trees and plantings to provide the family with the seclusion they desired, while ensuring that the home's impressive facade—and the prominent display of the large American flag—remained unobstructed.
-
Before Photo: Our client reoriented the layout of the home from its original position on the property. As part of this transformation, they requested the relocation of twelve large, mature trees to strategically chosen areas, enhancing privacy for the newly situated residence.
-
The home’s neutral palette is elegantly enhanced by rich dark green boxwood foundation plantings, complemented by sculptural conical topiaries and lush masses of hydrangeas.
-
Throughout the entire property we kept the same theme of clipped, formal hedges containing less structured less formal plantings in the backdrop.
-
It was crucial for our client that all plantings be meticulously maintained to ensure that no views from inside the house were obstructed.
-
Clipped, formal hedges were introduced to frame the planting beds, imparting a sense of grandeur and formality along the property. This structured element contrasts beautifully with the playful perennials, creating a sophisticated interplay of shapes and textures that honors the landscape's historical roots.
-
While the client envisioned a grand landscape suitable for hosting charitable events, they also desired a serene backyard retreat for intimate moments. To fulfill this, two chaise lounges were thoughtfully positioned to offer the couple a perfect vantage point to savor their surroundings while enjoying convenient access to the pool.
-
The 100-year-old limestone columns from the original home were elegantly repurposed for the new outdoor living room, while the iron from the existing structure was creatively transformed into a striking large bar table near the grill. The client’s vision for a fully equipped outdoor kitchen was realized with the addition of a mosaic pizza oven, seamlessly integrating both historical elements and modern amenities.
-
The fountain elegantly frames the expansive back doors, which open to a corridor that leads directly to the front entrance, establishing a seamless flow from the front to the back of the home.
-
This view highlights the symmetry central to the designer's vision, where the curved balustrade fencing aligns perfectly with the firepit, fountain, and main back door entrance, creating a strikingly grand arrival into the backyard.
-
This photograph showcases the meticulously designed balustrade fence that borders the three-foot retaining wall, creating the illusion of a seamlessly level backyard from the house. The engineering required for this limestone balustrade, with materials sourced from Italy, involved over twenty detailed tear sheets to ensure that each column, cap, and curve was precisely measured, leaving no room for error.
